16th European Forum on Eco-innovation

Hannover, Germany

Each year the European Union throws away three billion tonnes of waste. Only a small share of this waste is traded on second hand markets or recycled. To avoid this waste of resources, energy, and human labour, a smart approach to integrated infrastructures is needed. The 16th biannual European Forum on Eco-Innovation in Hannover (Germany) on 7 and 8 April 2014 will address this need.

Organised by the European Commission's DG Environment, the forum brings together around 200 specialists from the worlds of research, industry, policy, finance, civil society and business. Over two days, participants will present the latest developments in their fields and engage with discussions on a specific theme.

The forum will also examine enabling factors and challenges of transitioning to a circular economy model in an urban context. These will be presented through the lens of the stakeholders: city authorities, citizens, and businesses. The event will also identify and showcase eco-innovations that can facilitate the shift to a circular economy and support cities in meeting the new targets for municipal waste treatment. It is held in conjunction with the Metropolitan Solutions and IndustrialGreenTech fairs.
